Regular Schedule

Coronavirus and Services

Dear Southwood Church,

Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus' words from the Gospel of John come to mind these days:

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid." (John 14:27)

In unprecedented times like these, let's keep the grace and peace of our Lord front and center in our minds.

In addition, as we are seeking to act wisely and in cooperation with the medical counsel being offered widely, Southwood will be transitioning from physical gatherings for several weeks, until we receive word that the spread of the virus has stabilized. Our smaller gatherings (youth and prayer meetings, Sunday School classes, discipleship groups, Dialogue service, etc.) will be postponed as well. In lieu of Sunday morning worship gatherings, we are planning to send out a link to a pre-recorded video which will include music, prayer, and a sermon/devotional. It's our hope to also include questions to provoke thought and/or discussion in your home. Look for an email to be sent out this weekend! We'll also hope to post in on Southwood's facebook group, so people can interact (post comments) if you'd like.

A couple of notes regarding this significant change:

  1. Even as we wait for this season to pass, we continue to need resources for electricity, compensation, insurance, etc., as well as for prior commitments such as pledges to Faith Promise. If you haven't used our online giving option before, please consider trying it: https://southwoodchurch.org/online_giving  If you prefer to mail a check, please be sure to send it to our Post Office box: PO Box 11867, Raytown, MO 64138.
  2. Shelter KC has contacted all volunteers to suspend volunteer services through April 5. So we will not be serving there next week as we normally would. They have said they still have needs for and will receive donations such as: soft soap, combination body wash/shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, canned goods, hot/cold cereal, meats and cheeses.

Even though we are not gathering these weeks, we are still connected! Cards, texts, phone calls, and emails are all great ways to stay in touch with each other. Let's also keep in mind our neighbors and those we know who might need a helping hand.

In the Peace of Christ,

Pastor Deanna

Palm Sunday Baptism service
On Sunday, April 5, we will be joining St. Paul's Church of the Nazarene for our morning worship service! During that time, we will be baptizing people who would like to enter into the baptism covenant with the Body of Christ. If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Pastor Deanna as soon as you can!
